The Importance of Fasting One of the most defining aspects of Ramadan is the practice of fasting. Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset, and during this time they are encouraged to focus on their spiritual well-being. Fasting is seen as a way of purifying the soul and developing self-discipline, as well as a way of empathizing with those who are less fortunate and do not have access to basic needs. The Importance of Spiritual Reflection Ramadan is also a time for spiritual reflection and contemplation. Muslims are encouraged to increase their acts of worship during this month, including prayer, reading the Quran, and giving to charity. It is a time to focus on strengthening one’s relationship with God and seeking forgiveness for past mistakes. Muslims believe that the rewards for good deeds during Ramadan are multiplied, so it is a time to increase one’s good deeds and positive actions. Haji Ali is a famous mosque located in Mumbai, India. The mosque is named after Sayed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, a wealthy merchant from Uzbekistan who gave up all his material possessions and became a saint. The mosque was built in the 19th century, and it is located on a small islet off the coast of Worli in the Arabian Sea. The Haji Ali mosque is a major tourist attraction in Mumbai and is visited by people of all religions. The mosque is a beautiful example of Indo-Islamic architecture, with its white marble structure and domed roof. The main prayer hall can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers at a time. One of the unique features of the Haji Ali mosque is that it is accessible only during low tide. During high tide, the causeway that connects the mosque to the mainland gets submerged under the water, making it impossible to reach the mosque. However, the mosque is accessible by boats at all times. www.thesufi.com
