The gradual ascent of the soul is further described by sufis to be related to 'four main states', through which the traveller must pass. 1. Nasut, humanity, the natural state of every human being, in which the disciple must observe shariat. 2. Malakut, nature of angels, in which he takes the Path of spiritual journey, at-'tariqat. 3. Jabarut, possession of power, for which there is Marifat. 4.
