Noor Jehan, often called Mallika Taranum (The Queen of Melody) in Pakistan, once mentioned in an interview that Faiz Ahmed Faiz in a mehfil asked her to sing from his most popular poems 'Raqeeb Se'. Noor Jehan was hesitant how she can sing without a tune composed. Faiz insisted to just create any extempore melody. Obliging the great poet, she performed it without any background music instruments. Faiz loved the poem so much that he said I have given this poem to Noor Jehan, as after her singing, his own recitation will not look good at all.
