Today [30 Sept] is the birthday of Mevlana Rumi, who is regarded as the greatest mystic ever. TheSufi.com website also started in love for Mevlana. His influence is so deep that all Sufis acknowledge Mevlana as their master. His books [Masnavi] defies time and space and remain a best seller even today, from India to US. May his blessings always be with us. Ameen.

Baba Farid R.A It so happened that Baba Farid (R.A) fasted for three days continuously. On the third day a man brought him some bread. Without Baba Farid knowing it, this bread was unlawful food to him. Because of an unpleasant sight he vomitted everything he had eaten. Again he fasted for three days. Afterwards he picked up a few pebbles and put them into his mouth. These pebbles turned into sugar. Baba Farid came to be known as Ganj-e-Shakar, because his being changed into a treasure of sugar. Amir Khurd has quoted a verse from Hakim Sana'i when describing the anecdote: Sang dar dast-e-to gohar gardad Zahr dar kaam-e-to shakar gardad Translation: Pebbles turn into pearls in your hand. There is a mystical relation between the names “Ahad” and “Ahmad”: al-Ahad, i.e. Allah, is limitless. The only difference between “Ahad” and “Ahmad” is the letter meem. The Sufis consider Ahmad – the Holy Prophet – as the prototype of the fully realised man, man who has realised his mystical potential, i.e his true Divine Nature. They say that the letter mīm is the only thing that separates the Prophet from God. In this case, the letter mīm can be interpreted in a number of ways: 1. It may be understood as the first letter of mahdūd (“limited”); and indeed, man is limited by the physical circumstances of living on earth. 2. It may also be the first letter of mumkin (“possible”), indicating that man possesses the potential to attain to the highest degree of mystical realisation. 3. It represents the sound of mystical completion (m), and the completion of the Circle of Prophethood (Dā’irat-un-Nubūwa), which began with Adam and was completed by Muhammad.

Ranjha of the Punjabi Folk Tale 'Heer Ranjha' was the youngest of four brothers and lived in the village 'Takht Hazara' by the river Chenab. Being his father's favorite son, unlike his brothers who had to toil in the lands, he led a life of ease playing the flute 'Wanjhli'/'Bansuri'). After a quarrel with his brothers over land, Ranjha leaves home. Eventually he arrives in Heer's village and falls in love with her. Heer offers Ranjha a job as caretaker of her father's cattle. She becomes mesmerised by the way Ranjha plays his flute and eventually falls in love with him. This story of Love has been celebrated by many folk singer. Satan's evidence to Moses. God one day said to Moses in secret: ‘Go and get a word of advice from Satan.’ So Moses went to visit Iblis and when he came to him asked him for a word of advice. ‘Always remember,’ said Iblis, ‘this simple axiom: never say “I”, so that you never may become like me.’

The temptation to eat the forbidden fruit Put the noose of destiny around my neck. Once I sang like a nightingale in my Lord’s garden- Trapped in this mortal cage, I now flutter with pain. Discard love for everything else from your heart, And pray only for his grace to call you back, O Bahu.
